Happy Summer Everyone!
The Friendship Adventures Day Program is off to a great start! In our first month we have accomplished a lot with the new facility, Friendship Academy, and with our programming. Please spread the word and come check us out!
We’ve been participating in community improvement and events, playing games, doing puzzles, and making art, shooting hoops and goofing around with our giant inflatable bowling set. We have traveled up the Interurban Trail to Sky Nursery and started a beautification program on the public side of our property, working with some great volunteers. We have an amazing veggie and flower garden growing out back, thanks to donated dirt from Sky Nursery and lots of mom and dad energy and participant elbow grease. We’re practicing adapted yoga with a professional local instructor and will soon be starting music and art programs with experienced teachers as well. And of course the participants have really enjoyed just being together and hanging out with their friends!
After soft-starting with two days a week, we are taking next week off to prepare and then moving up to five days a week of operation starting July 11th. The program will operate Monday through Friday from 10am to 1pm, with plans to extend the hours in the fall. Participants can use respite hours or private pay at the respite rate. We still need parents or caregivers to stick around while we get to know your family member, and help out with the group until we can afford to hire staff. We are working on it!
Forms are attached for registering as a participant or volunteer. Once you have submitted a volunteer registration form you can sign up to volunteer here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4CABAD2BA5F58-friendshipWe will soon have more great information on our website: friendshipadventures.org including all necessary forms, more details about our operations and special events, and info about the people involved. Please be patient as we update our website.
Our location is called Friendship Academy and the address is 1206 N 185th Street, Shoreline, WA 98133 (the former Shoreline Police Department). Stop by and see what it’s all about! We hope you will come play with us – we are having so much fun!
