Respite Night- Parents Night Out 10/23
October 23 @ 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm$45
Let’s give the parents and caregivers the night off to do what they wish while we have dinner and a fun night at Friendship Academy. We will have plenty of time to socialize, have some laughs and simply hang out with each other. Games, karaoke, bingo, movies, dancing, and arts and crafts will be some of the fun to be had. We will vote where to have takeout from the many nearby restaurants and enjoy a great night together!
Instructors: Jill Rogers and Andy Denney 25 maximum
Please register for the session(s) you would like to attend. You may register for as many weekends as you desire, but not for the am & pm session on the same day. Participants who attend more than one weekend will have the opportunity to advance their skills and weave additional projects.
In our upcoming Weaving Workshop class series, participants will:
- Be introduced to the art of weaving
- Use a loom to create their very own woven piece to take home
- Have the opportunity to participate in a communal Friendship Academy community weaving project
- Learn about being eco-friendly as they reuse and upcycle salvaged fiber from items like t-shirts, sweaters, and fabric remnants
Weaving is a calming and fun multisensory activity that can create new avenues for creative expression. The repetitive nature of the weaving process also offers a lot of opportunities to work on eye-hand coordination, motor skills, pattern recognition, and sequencing. Participants will feel successful and confident learning this new skill as Kelsey breaks down the weaving process into small steps that can be practiced and repeated at their own pace. At the end of each workshop participants will leave with a sense of accomplishment and a beautiful tangible product to keep or share.
Previous weaving experience is not necessary. Shared equipment will be cleaned between uses.
